Junction 6 connects the M42 to the A45 to the east of Birmingham near the National Exhibition Centre (NEC). It has almost reached capacity causing severe congestion and delays across the network.

Do you have to pay the M6 Toll both ways?
If you’re travelling along the M6toll heading further afield northbound or southbound, you’ll pay at one of two mainline toll plazas. If your route means you’ll travel on just part of the M6toll by coming off at one of our local junction plazas, you will be charged a lower rate at the tolling booths.
Did a giraffe escape on the m42?
They feared it could disrupt the ecosystem, be attacked by Asian elephants not used to seeing giraffes or wander back onto the treacherous roads. However, the 20ft tall giraffe was found dead this afternoon close to the point it escaped. It appeared to have fallen into the swamp and drowned.

Why is the M42 called M42?
In the 1970s, a short section of motorway was built as a spur south from the M6 to the east of Birmingham, mainly to serve the NEC, and it was called M42. Once the motorway reached the A444 at Measham, there were just fifteen miles between the end of the motorway and its destination, the M1 at Nottingham.

The M5 motorway links the Midlands to the South West region of the UK. Running for just over 160 miles in length, it starts at Junction 8 of the M6, at West Bromwich, and ends in Exeter, in Devon.
